March Mini-Kaiseki

Had an excellent Kaiseki meal at Nadaman. As usual, forgot about taking pictures until halfway through the meal. The first dish was their home-made Tofu with Uni, served with spring onion, wasabi and sauce. The tofu was very soft and silky, almost like the Chinese dessert "Douhua"(豆腐花), with some yoba(soy milk skin). The Uni was very fresh and had a flowery taste.

Next was a salad with Sea beam sashimi, tomato, mozzarella and pickled cabbage with seaweed dressing. Surprised to see an almost Italian style salad. But the ingredients mixed well together and they are delicious by themselves and when mixed together.

Next came the Sushi. First time to try sushi with Whitebait (Chinese usually fry them with eggs) and is very yummy. The most surprising one should be the spring onion (or chive?) with bonito. It's so full of flavour and as tasty as the others.

The soup with sea beam and seasonal vegetables arrived with a small stove to keep it warm. The dashi is light yet very sweet.

Fried sakura shrimps and peas. It's not oily and the sakura shrimps are very fresh.
Was very full by the time the Yakimono arrived. Foie Gras with beef and daikon! Managed to ate most of the foie gras and beef but have to leave the daikon...

There's also congee with seaweed(mozuku/水雲).

Sakura sorbet with sweet red bean paste with fruit and jelly. Couldn't quite figure out the sakura taste but the sweet red bean paste goes well with the fruit and jelly.

Think it's called "mini" kaiseki because it didn't have all the usual dishes in a kaiseki meal, but think the portion they serve is enough for two. And as the waitress said, a kaiseki meal will take at least 1 hour, if not more...

Caffe Habitu

Had a cozy quick lunch in Wanchai. Surprised the restaurants in the area around Star Street are so busy on Sat lunch time.
Strawberry hot chocolate...well, it's basically strawberry cream on top of hot chocolate and not much difference from normal chocolate.
Had a four cheese pizza, the crust is thin and crispy and needless to say, very cheesy. Always prefer the thin crust type to the thick ones.
Smoke salmon anglehair is a bit different from our expectation. Though the salmon is tender and tasty, the anglehair itself is bland.

The cafe is somewhere comfortable to spend a quiet weekend afternoon...

Oyster & Wine Bar

An interesting restaurant tucked away on the 18th floor of Sheraton with a great view.

Their plates are very cute:
Couldn't resist the temptation of the oyster bar and ordered 4 based on the waiter's suggestion - Kumamoto, Netarts Bay, Eagle Bay and Crumbrae. Obviously forgot all about taking photos and only remembered after finished the Kumamoto.
Spotted Crab Bisque
Shared a 12oz Japanese Kobe style steak, served with some vegetables and a protabello. This is half of the dish. The beef is very tender, of course, need to pretend you don't know that's because the marble(fat)...
Latte
Was quite full after the meal so chose a Chocolate Souffle instead of Hot Valhrona Chocolate Cake for dessert. Think Souffle is mostly preferred by women as they love the light and delicate texture while men usually find it not substantial enough, being just a little bit of egg white and sugar with lots of hot air.
Though it's a seafood restaurant, the menu has a lot of choice other than seafood. Guess that's why quite busy in the evening in the middle of the week.

MOS Burger again

Finally tried the "normal" MOS burger. Decided to have a set C of cheeseburger, with salad and Konjac(蒟蒻 or elephant foot).
The burger was still warm after 15 minutes but guess it'll taste even better if eaten right away. It's very juicy and the buns were soft and sweet with lots of raw onion. Strangely it reminds me of the type of hamburgers you'll get from the breakfast shops in Taiwan. It's very different from Triple O or the American type burger. Not recommended to those who don't like raw onion or Asian/Japanese type of bread. Uhm...would like to have one more please.

Pork Chop burgers and Dai Pai Dongs

Tried a small shop called "筷子記" (Chopsticks) after reading about it on some blogs. It serves Macau noodles and snacks. Since not too keen on noodles, settled for a port chop burger. The bun is soft and hot with a juicy pork chop. Nice for a quick afternoon tea.

Further up the street there's "蘭芳園", love their traditional HK style milk tea, pork chop burger and dry instant noodle with different toppings. It's always crowded and you'll need to share a table with others.

Finally tried "勝香園". You'll have to sit on the side of the street (which is a slop) and need a lot of patience. First wait for a seat, then wait for someone to take your order and clear the table, then for your food. Being a tomato lover, really like the tomato soup instant noodle. You'll get a lot of tomatoes(well, it's canned tomatoes but hey, it's a Dai Pai Dong.) Will go back to try their crispy bun with lemon and honey and crispy pork chop bun sometime.
